Having a pet is a big responsibility. Have you ever wondered if you are giving your pet the best possible life? Are you doing everything you can to make your pet happy, healthy and content?

Some people do think about this and others do not.

I think if you are going to have a pet, you should try to give your pet the best life possible. I saw a commercial on TV (some drug commercial, I think) - it said something like,  "I only have one life to live and I want to take care of it". I think that's good advice, for a human or a dog.

What can you do to give your dog the best life possible? Here are a few tips.

Monitor your dog every day. Is he eating? Drinking? Acting normal? Is he playful? If not try to figure out why. If he appears sick, have him checked by your veterinarian.
Make sure he is getting plenty of exercise.  Take your dog for a walk and allow him to run around and get some exercise.
Make sure your dog has plenty of opportunities to play.  Play with your dog everyday.
Feed a good quality food. Don't skimp on food. Feed a good quality food formulated for your dog's life stage.
Don't let your dog get fat.  As little as 20% extra weight can put your dog at risk for developing some very significant diseases such as diabetes, arthritis and heart
Keep your dog vaccinated. Vaccines prevent common diseases.
Treat and prevent parasites. Give preventative medications as recommended by your veterinarian to prevent fleas, parasites and heartworm disease.

I hope these tips will help you give your dog the best life possible.
